A stop over for Christmas and New Year around Efate - The Daily Post, 25 December 2015

Picture
Orovy Beach Restaurant is a new restaurant locally owned by ni-Vanuatu at Emua village in North Efate.

It is owned by the Orovy Association, a group formed by family members in the village.

The restaurant is located right by the beach with spectacular views across to islands of Nguna, Pele, Kakula and even Mataso in the distance.

It has a bar and serves a delicious menu that includes fish mornay, buttered fish and barbecued fish as well as chicken prepared by a chef that has spent spent two years at a major resort on Efate.

The food cost starts at Vt2,000 down to Vt1,000 and buffet meals can also be prepared upon booking. The whole menu of the restaurant can be found on their website.

The restaurant was started after close family members put together the talents and skills they had in tourism and created this business.

Orovy Association started in 2013 to built its restaurant house but Cyclone Pam came and damaged it. But they did not give up and rebuilt the restaurant but reduced its size.

The restaurant opened and started to receive guests over the last three months. It receives guests from the Evergreen tour, as well as private cars and tours that stopped by. While it may be new, Orovy Beach Restaurant has already received a great review on the Trip Advisor from a guest who rated the restaurant as excellent.

Chairman of Orovy Association, Kaltonga Kalrongo, who is also Manager of the restaurant, said bookings for Christmas or New Year can be made for buffet or just stop overs for snacks.

The restaurant’s mobile phone contact details are; 5447189 and 7737139.

The manager says whatever guests want can be prepared for them.

"BITES told readers a couple of weeks ago about the new ni-Vanuatu run restaurant at Emua village, and last week Bites ventured north with a few friends to check it out.

Orovy Beach Restaurant turned out to be just what was expected - an attractive thatched hut with a sand floor, just a step away from a sandy beach beside a placid lagoon, with a simple menu of good, fresh food, very nicely cooked and presented, in generous proportions.

It has been built and opened by three local families - in fact, three sisters from Emua village and  their husbands, who are all experienced in hospitality having worked at various resorts, including one multi-award winner. They are charming people, most welcoming and keen to please.

The menu is on a blackboard and subject to availability of fresh ingredients, but from what we saw there's pretty much something to please everyone. Three of our party chose fresh poulet fish (VT 2000) - two in garlic butter sauce, which was delicious, and the other battered in a light tempura style coating. Both were served with a big pile of golden chips and another of lovely salad. A couple of the others had steak and BBQ sauce (VT 1800), while the sixth chose the chicken kebabs (VT 1000) drizzled with lemon and olive oil, again with chips and salad, and was very pleased with his choice. There is also an all-day snack menu which is very reasonably priced.

The beers were nice and cold, and while the wine offerings were a little limited, they will be expanded very soon.

Adjacent to the restaurant there are newly-built flush toilets, and showers are being installed so you and rinse off after a swim, before tucking in to a meal or a snack.

Bites applauds the team for their initiative and while they have just a few small teething problems, is sure they will make Orovy Beach Restaurant a great success."
